Scandium Oxide is used for manufacturing scandium metal and other scandium materials. It is also used for manufacturing alloys in the metallurgical industry and emission material of thermoelectric exchangers. Scandium Oxide is applied in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), single substrate of memory storage devices, solid magnetic cooling medium, inhibitor, additive of the samarium-cobalt magnet, x-ray intensifying screen, the magnetic cooling medium used in phosphor,neutron-absorbing material in atomic reactor, magnetic bubble material and intensifying screen material. Scandium Oxide is also applied in the optical glass and electronic industry.
