Molybdenum (Mo) is used principally as an alloying agent in steel, cast iron, and super alloys to enhance hardenability, strength, toughness, and wear and corrosion resistance. Molybdenum is also widely used in the furnace industry for radiation screens, elements, and sintering trays.
Other uses of molybdenum are as compounds in chemical applications. For example, molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is used as a solid lubricant and a high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) antiwear agent. Molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) is used as an adhesive between enamels and metals.
