Lanthanum Hexaboride Disc (LaB6 Disc, also called lanthanum boride and LaB6) is an inorganic chemical. With a melting point of 2528 K, LaB6 is a refractory ceramic material, which is highly insoluble in water and converts to oxide when heated (calcined), and is very stable in a vacuum. Stoichiometric samples are colored intensely purple-violet, while boron-rich ones (above LaB6.07) are blue. Ion bombardment changes its color from purple to emerald green. LaB6 Disc is a superconductor with a relatively low transition temperature of 0.45 K.
Borides are hard, high-melting materials with metal-like conductivity, and they are stable to nonoxidizing acids but break down in strong oxidizing agents and strong alkalis. Borides are used in semiconductors, superconductors, diamagnetic, paramagnetic, ferromagnetic, anti-ferromagnetic, turbine blades, and rocket nozzles. High Purity (99.999%) Lanthanum Boride Sputtering Target nanopowder forms may be considered.
